Friday Nov 24, 2023
It’s true friends. I relate to an angsty alien tattoo artist named Mariikel from Mary Jessica Wood’s book “Markmaker.” We’ve chatted with Mary about her story before: https://jacquelinerosegold.podbean.com/e/what-does-it-mean-to-paint-the-truth/ but today analyze the story from a slightly different angle.
I’m this episode I unpack some of the reasons I love this character so much and resonate with his struggle. Grab a pen and notebook for some journal questions - I love thinking of how this book can help us grow on our own journey.
Thanks as always for listening! If you have a friend who might relate to Mariikel as well, make sure to share the episode and check out Mary’s book. Happy Reading, Friends!

What does it mean to be real?
How do we change our fortune?
What is the secret to happiness?
Today, I’d like to look at these questions raised in Grace Lin’s beautiful story Where The Mountain Meets the Moon.
What does it mean to be real in an era of imposter syndrome? Grace Lin has characters that struggle with feeling “not real” and gives a beautiful answer for how to be authentic but honest.
How do we change our fortune? Mini, the heroin of the story, wants go change the fortune of her impoverished family and along the way gives us a beautiful example of how to change our own fate, should that be what we desire.
What is the secret to happiness? I do end up spilling this major spoiler at the end (after plenty of warnings that a major spoiler is coming) but I think that circumstances surrounding the secret to happiness teach us even more. The secret of happiness doesn’t have to a secret at all. It’s easier to attain than we think, if only we have the humility to accept that.
If you had to say what the secret of happiness was in one word, what would that one word be for you?

Monday Sep 18, 2023
Monday Sep 18, 2023
I love books! But sometimes I see pressure to “just read.”
I want to talk about books we shouldn’t read. There are books which harm your own story, lower your intelligence, and keep you from becoming the person you are meant to be.
Thank you so much for listening! I’d love to hear your thoughts! Message me at JacquelineRoseGold on Instagram OR Leave a comment!:)

Emma Woodhouse: Despicable? or Lovable?
Wednesday Aug 23, 2023
Wednesday Aug 23, 2023
Let’s have a debate, shall we?
Is Emma Woodhouse, Jane Austen’s controversial character, lovable or hatable?
I’ll start the dialogue. I think she is a flawed but not malicious character who is willing and able to grow. I love how she changed throughout the book and shows promise of changing even more after!
That being said, I know that she gets on lots of peoples nerves! I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments or in a message on insta @jacquelinerosegold
